UBIK is the new project for ex-Spacemen 3 member Sterling Roswell, 'Rosco'. Falling out of art school at 18 into the crash-course in the MC5, Stooges, drugs and psychedelia that was Spacemen 3, Rosco survived to collaborate in Darkside on Beggars Banquet. Since that project he has been living in Italy, where he added TV presenter and DJ to his long curriculum vitae. Possibly the spaciest of the Spacemen, he is constantly studying art, music and science fiction, and has described UBIK as 'Space Age Pop' and 'an Association of Autonomous Astronauts'. UBIK are the first signing in 3 years to the Mint label (those who first brought you Mercury Rev), and the world will soon hear the first offering of UBIK's new weird works with the self-titled 12" & CD single, 'Ubik'. Recorded in Rome, Italy, the package adds for good measure both a Euro dance version and radio edit as well as the full version of 'Ubik', plus a fourth track of weird beats. Now based in the UK, UBIK have morphed into a live band with Daniela Piccoli from Italy on bass and Danny Payne on drums and they've already got gigs under their belt at the Dublin Castle and at Julian Cope's club at the Garage. Now they're launching their own club, 'Cheree Cheree presents The Temporary Autonomous Zone' at the Camden Underworld alternate Thursdays from March 16th. 'The object of this experimental transmission is to translate our audio/visual data and test signals in your energy zones and environmental area. Please confirm bandwidth specifications and requirements.'
