Cellophane 'Hang Ups'

From the MINT label, (which also brought you Mercury Rev, Dean Wareham and Radial Spangle), from Poughkeepsie, the murder capital of New York State come Cellophane. Their recent single 'We Need You' is now followed by their debut album, 'Hang Ups'. Four talented twenty-something's with a batch of songs produced by Scott Hull and now managed by Helmet's supervisor.

In the US Cellophane's star is rising, as their recent itinerary shows: with Bob Dylan as east coast tour support; the New Music Seminar; Woodstock; Reading Festival UK; co-headline with Mercury Rev; Browns NYC; and CMJ Irving Plaza with Echobelly and Ween, Meat Puppets and Soul Asylum supports. Having already been described as 'the last great American rock band' by Spin and 'cool' by Rolling Stone their future looks, in the words of songwriter DeVries: 'just fine, really weird'.

Their single 'We Need You', featured regularly on Radio 1's evening session, is included on 'Hang Ups', to be issued by Mint at the end of October. It also features guests John Ashton from The Psychedelic Furs and Jonathan and Suzanne from Mercury Rev.
