Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers '‘L.A.M.F.’ - Special Edition

Thunders & Heartbreakers LAMF Special Edition

The Heartbreakers’ 1977 classic album ‘L.A.M.F. the lost ’77 mixes’ is released as a special deluxe 2xCD edition with a bonus CD containing demos, rehearsals and outtakes.

Johnny Thunders & Jerry Nolan formed the Heartbreakers in 1975 out of the ashes of the New York Dolls.  Firstly they were together with Richard Hell, and then teamed up with Billy Rath & Walter Lure.  Malcolm McLaren, who’d tried to manage the Dolls, invited them join the Pistols for the Anarchy tour in 1976.  Staying in London at the heart of the punk scene for the following year, they signed to Track Records and recorded ‘L.A.M.F.’  The album was acclaimed as a classic, but was famously flawed with a ‘muddy mix’ caused by a mastering fault.  A properly audible version remained unheard until 1994 when Jungle sifted through the original master-tapes and reconstructed it.

The new bonus disc 2 features alternative mixes from various studios, and two demo sessions from early and late 1977.  It also includes previously unheard instrumental backing tracks together with false starts and studio chat, giving a unique insight into the studio sessions.  It comes together with an info-packed 24-page booklet, with notes by Nina Antonia and for the first time including the lyrics to all Heartbreakers songs and background notes about each song by the Heartbreakers’ guitarist Walter Lure.

Johnny died in 1991, followed by Jerry’s death in 1992.  Their influence on the punk scene in 1977 has permeated through to today’s new rock’n’roll scene, with many artists over the years citing ‘L.A.M.F.’ as a huge influence.  The album regularly appears in lists of the Best Punk Albums, such as recently in both Mojo and Q.  This Special Edition will appeal to both the connoisseurs of the Johnny Thunders legend and those newly intrigued by The Heartbreakers’ reputation as one of the finest ever rock’n’roll bands.
