Formed in 1977, ATV was the brainchild of Mark Perry, the editor of Britain's seminal punk fanzine, Sniffin' Glue. Having exhorted his readers to go and form a band armed with three chords illustrated in his fanzine, Mark took up his own advice with the help of Alex Fergusson, later of Psychic TV. Initially aided and encouraged by Throbbing Gristle, they went on to release some memorable singles, in particular 'Love Lies Limp' (free with Sniffin' Glue) and 'How Much Longer?', both contained on this live performance, and a couple of studio albums.
Fergusson left after a while, and the band existed only sporadically in the eighties. This document of one of their first performances, was recorded by Genesis P. Orridge (who can be heard chatting and barracking the band in between songs) on a mono walkman cassette. It was first issued as a limited edition in 1979 as a momento of the band's earliest incarnation, and is now re-issued on the specialist collector's label OBSESSION. Mark Perry has also issued a solo album on the Chicago label Feel Good All Over Records.
